Addendum (11/21; 2:00 PM): Please note that the dating on this card has been updated to reflect additional research provided to REA that more accurately dates the Novelty Cutlery set to 1910.
Graded FAIR 1.5 by SGC (submitted by REA). Stunning example of one of Sam Crawford's most impressive cards, from the rare and highly regarded PC805 postcard set issued by the Novelty Cutlery Co. of Canton, Ohio, in 1910. This newly discovered card is part of a fresh-to-the-hobby collection of nine Novelty Cutlery postcards consigned to this auction by the family of the original owner (whose name happens to be written on the back of all the cards). The PC805 series is universally recognized as one of the most desirable of all baseball postcard issues. These cards have always been appreciated by collectors both for their extreme rarity and distinctive style. This very attractive example of Sam Crawford is one of only fifteen Hall of Famers in the Novelty Cutlery set. Bright, crisp, and clean, with a flawless image, even corner wear, and outstanding centering. The reverse has pencil writing (name and address of the original owner), which is solely responsible for the assigned grade despite a better appearance. This is a very impressive-looking Hall of Famer example from this rare and elegantly designed set. Reserve $200. Estimate (open).
