Collection of ten different cards (out of 16), including all four Hall of Famers, from the rare and unusual Grignon Chicago Cubs photographic postcard series issued in 1907. These cards are part of an exciting, fresh-to-the-hobby collection consigned to this auction by the family of a Midwestern collector who built his impressive collection over a period of many decades, beginning as a young boy in the 1930s. This set was produced to commemorate the Cubs' participation in the 1907 World Series and is one of the most popular baseball postcard issues of the era. Each card pictures a large teddy bear in a baseball pose with a small black-and-white portrait of a Cubs player in an upper corner. The collection consists of the following: Brown (HOF, Vg), Chance (HOF, postal use, otherwise Vg), Evers (HOF, postal use, otherwise Gd), Overall (Ex), Pfeister (postal use and writing on front, otherwise Fr-Gd), Reulbach (Pr-Fr due to spot of paper loss), Schulte (Ex+), Slagle (Ex), Steinfeldt (postal use, otherwise Gd), and Tinker (HOF, toning on reverse, otherwise Vg). Six of the cards have never been mailed and have no writing on their traditional postcard reverses. This is a very attractive group of these rare and very distinctive postcards. Dimensions: 3.5 x 5.5 inches. Total: 10 cards. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000+.
