Graded EX+ 5.5 by PSA. This is the ONLY example graded at this level by PSA with none higher! Extraordinary high-grade example of Larry Doyle with bat pose (New York Giants) from the extremely rare E101 "Set of 50" series. The manufacturer of E101 is unknown. This rare caramel issue from 1909 shares a similar design with several other related candy issues (Croft's Candy, Dockman Gum, Nadja Caramels, etc.) from the same era. As suggested by its impressive PSA grade, the offered example is in tremendous condition, especially compared to most other caramel cards, with a crisp, clean image, bold colors, bright white borders, light corner wear (a bit more on the upper right), and outstanding centering. The reverse is boldly printed and entirely clean. Caramel cards in general are much rarer than tobacco cards of the era. Because they were issued with caramels one card per package and sold to children (as opposed to being sold to adults with tobacco), they also tend to survive in a much lower grade. Only eighteen E101 examples (of any subject) have ever been graded EX+ or better by PSA out of 716 cards evaluated to date! This is an outstanding high-grade example worthy of any world-class E101 set or type-card collection. Reserve $200. Estimate (open).
