Photographic supplement, published by The New York World, capturing the 1913 National League Champion New York Giants. The photo captures twenty-eight members of the club in a classic team pose, all of whom are identified in print along the base, including manager John McGraw, Christy Mathewson, Jim Thorpe, Wilbert Robinson (coach), Rube Marquard, Fred Snodgrass, Fred Merkle, Chief Meyers, Jeff Tesreau, Larry Doyle, Art Fletcher, Red Murray, George Burns, Al Demaree, and Hooks Wiltse. The caption along the bottom white border reads "New York Baseball Club - National League Champions 1913." An "Underwood & Underwood" copyright notice appears in the lower right corner. The Giants captured their third consecutive pennant in 1913, but, like the two previous years, once again fell victim to their American League rivals in the World Series. 1913 also marked Jim Thorpe's first Major League season. A gold-medal winner in the 1912 summer Olympics in Sweden, Thorpe returned home and began a professional baseball career that lasted six seasons. Thorpe appeared in just nineteen games with the Giants during his inaugural season, finishing the year with 1 home run, 2 RBI, and a .143 batting average. The supplement (16.75 x 9 inches; visible dimensions), which appears to be printed on heavy paper stock, displays a few light creases and tiny abrasions. In apparent Very Good condition.
