Presented is the original preliminary artwork (13.25 x 7.25 inches) for the five-cent display box of Topps' “Flags of the World” series issued in 1970. The artwork was designed for the top lid of the box and is executed on artist board. When Topps designed the "Flags of the World" display box, this is the preliminary it first prepared for the display box top, designed to capture the attention of youngsters at candy stores to generate interest, intrigue, and sales. The artwork has the original mylar overlay with printer notations along the lower portion. This overlay is attached to the artwork and lies perfectly over the artwork as intended. The artwork can be displayed with or without the original mylar overlay. The original artwork is in Near Mint condition. Though at a glance this appears to be the actual artwork to the box, comparing it to the issued box leads us to believe this is a preliminary design. Whatever it is, it looks great! An extraordinary rarity that would be a superb and significant addition to any nonsport-card collection. Reserve $300. Estimate (open).
