Graded EX 5 by SGC. This is the only example graded at this level with none higher! Presented is an extremely rare and crisp 1887 N693 Kalamazoo Bats team card of the Pittsburgh Nationals, featuring Hall of Famer Pud Galvin, accompanied by nine players. Over the years, we have found the Pittsburgh Nationals team (then known as the Pittsburgh Alleghenys) to be one of the rarest of the six Kalamazoo Bats team cards. In fact, this is the first example of this card that we have offered in the last twenty years. This is an extremely attractive example! The card displays an extremely strong photograph with ideal contrast and perfect focus and is centered slightly toward the bottom right. The blank reverse displays several light spots of toning and a small area of light abrasion. It should be noted that this card was originally graded more modestly by PSA, who in our opinion were unduly harsh on the reverse. Only six different teams are known to exist. No new teams have been discovered since the 1960s, so the set appears to be complete at six. This is a tremendous example of this desirable nineteenth-century tobacco-card rarity. Reserve $5,000.
