Graded VG 40 by SGC. Rare 1888 Presidential Base Ball Club card featuring both Grover Cleveland and Benjamin Harrison (Small Heads variation). Catalogued N154 and issued by Duke & Sons, the Presidential B.B. Club set is similar in dimensions (4.25 x 2.25 inches), design, and rarity to Kalamazoo Bats, but instead of ballplayers, they feature large ("Heads-Up" style) photographic portraits of the presidential and vice presidential candidates of 1888. Each portrait is comically superimposed on baseball-player bodies and posed in various baseball scenes with very elaborate studio stadium backdrops. On this card, Grover Cleveland is pictured with ball in hand as he puts the tag on a sliding Benjamin Harrison. Bold image, even corner wear, centered slightly to the left, and minor toning on the blank reverse. A light surface crease is present on the lower right. This is an extremely attractive mid-grade example from this unusual and extremely scarce nineteenth-century issue. Reserve $200. Estimate (open).
