Graded EX 60 by SGC. Stunning high-grade 1889 N172 Old Judge card featuring one of the most unusual and memorable images to ever appear on a baseball card: New York Hall of Famer Buck Ewing and the team's mascot, Willie Breslin (Ewing & Mascot, N.Y.'s pose). In addition to being a very desirable Hall of Famer, the pose of this card makes it one of the most interesting images to appear in the Old Judge set. The youngster is dressed in a miniature New York Giants uniform, true to form in every detail to those worn by the players. The mascot was even popular enough to warrant his own card in the 1887 Goodwin set (and was also issued in the N173 Old Judge large cabinet series). The offered example is well centered with a flawless surface (a tiny scratch in from the top edge is mentioned for accuracy), and four strong corners. The photo quality on this card is reasonably strong and above average for an N172 Old Judge. A small stain is present on the blank reverse. This is an outstanding example of one of Ewing's most memorable cards, and one of the most interesting cards in the entire Old Judge set. A worthy addition to any world-class collection!
