Presented is an extremely rare N172 Old Judge Bill Gleason (pose #193-1) Brown's Champions card with a highly unusual printing anomaly. Printing error cards have always fascinated card collectors, especially from the most popular and classic sets. The card displays partial upside-down printing of advertising text along the bottom and most importantly a small number "5" printed within the lower left corner of Gleason's portrait image. The importance of the small number "5" is not immediately apparent to most, but advanced N172 collectors will recognize this "short number" from Hall of Famer Mike "King" Kelly's N172 cards. This variation is so rare that it is the first example we have ever seen (and we've seen thousands of Old Judges), and to the best of our knowledge is the only example in existence. Encapsulated as "Authentic" by SGC, the offered example has an irregular hand cut, ideal bold printing (which really showcases the printing error), and light wear on the corners. The blank reverse has pencil notations and evidence of stamp-hinge removal in the center. This is a fascinating and exceptionally rare error card from the N172 Old Judge "Brown's Champions" subset. Reserve $1,000.
