Modestly graded 1887 N172 Old Judge of Hall of Famer John Ward (pose #478-7). Ward is recognized as one of the most important and influential players of the nineteenth century. In addition to being a star pitcher, and later a standout shortstop for the New York Giants during the 1880s, he was also one of Major League baseball's few true scholars. Ward was a college graduate (Penn State), and he later earned a law degree from Columbia. In 1890, Ward served as the leader of the short-lived renegade Players' League. This card displays suburb photo quality and strong centering. Graded POOR 10 by SGC due to a number of condition flaws, including rounded corners, paper loss, and heavy soiling. This is an attractive example of one of the key Hall of Famer cards of the N172 Old Judge series. Reserve $200.
