Graded POOR 1 by SGC (submitted by REA). The Boston Base Ball Club from the extremely rare 1887 Kalamazoo Bats series of team cards. There are only six team cards in the set, and Boston is one of the high-profile keys to the set. The Boston Club was one of the powerhouses of the era, highlighted by Hall of Famers Mike "King" Kelly and "Old Hoss" Radbourn. This is an extremely attractive card, with extraordinary detail, from the elaborate stadium-fence background, to the buttons on the uniforms, down to even the design elements of the legs of the chairs on which the players are sitting. The offered example displays an extremely strong photograph with ideal contrast and perfect focus. Several condition flaws, which are clearly present, are responsible for the modestly assigned grade. Despite the technical grade, this is still a very pleasing Kalamazoo Bats team card example and one of the nineteenth century's most striking and popular team cards. Reserve $1,000.
