Graded VG-EX 4 by PSA. Outstanding mid-grade example of Eddie Mathews’ rookie card. In addition to being his rookie card, 1952 Topps card #407 Eddie Mathews is also one of only a few key Hall of Famers in the rare high-number series, and as the last card in the set, is also a condition rarity. Just as card #1 Pafko was subject to wear due to gravitating to the top of the pile, #407 Mathews was also subject to excessive wear at the bottom of the pile. In anything even resembling high grade, this has always been a very difficult card for anyone putting together a quality 1952 Topps set. This example displays a crisp and sharp image, brilliant colors, and modest corner wear (most noticeable on bottom the right corner). Centered slightly toward the bottom right. The reverse of the card has a few light patches of discoloration around the edges but is otherwise clean. This is an extremely attractive mid-grade example of this important condition rarity that be worthy of any high-quality 1952 Topps set or Hall of Fame rookie-card collection. Reserve $1,000.
