Official American League (Barnard) ball signed in black fountain pen by Babe Ruth, Lou Gehrig, and Herb Pennock. The offered baseball is accompanied by full letters of authenticity from three different companies; PSA/DNA, JSA, and Beckett. Ruth's signature, which is the strongest of the three, sits on the sweet spot and grades "7." Gehrig's signature (grading "4") and Pennock's signature (grading "5") occupy, respectively, the panels directly above and to the left of Ruth's signature. Despite the presence of the Pennock signature, its positioning on the side panel allows for the ball to be displayed with only the Ruth and Gehrig signatures visible. As such, it presents a wonderful opportunity for a collector to acquire what looks almost exactly like a true Ruth/Gehrig ball, but at substantial discount to its pricier alternative. This particular ball dates to the 1929-1931 manufacturing period, which makes it highly probable that the signatures were obtained sometime between those years. Pennock, a Hall of Fame pitcher, played with the New York Yankees from 1923 to 1933. The baseball presents extremely well, with even coloration and no blemishes in the area of Ruth's signature. A few surface imperfections, along with light soiling, are present on other panels and are of no consequence to the outstanding display value. In Very Good to Excellent condition overall, with all of the manufacturer's stampings remaining bold and bright. Full LOA from PSA/DNA. Full LOA from James Spence/JSA. Full LOA from Steve Grad and Brian Sobrero/Beckett Authentication Services. Reserve $2,500.
