1906 New Orleans Pelicans W601 Sporting Life team composite featuring portrait images of 17 team members. It should be noted that Beck, Breitenstein, Dygert, Hahn, Holly, Phillips, Rohe, Stanley, Williams, and Wilson all eventually played in the Major Leagues. Breitenstein, Dygert, and Hahn also enjoyed more widespread fame with collectors when they were featured in the famed 1909-1911 T206 tobacco-card series. These team composites, printed on heavy enamel paper and issued by the Sporting Life newspaper, were available to fans either by individual purchase (for ten cents) or as a complete set in a bound volume. The offered piece originates from a bound volume, as indicated by the three prepunched binding holes along the left border. The piece (13 x 14 inches) displays small tears along borders, a few light creases, a tape repair on the right edge, and moisture stains. Although the piece is in Fair condition overall, it should be noted that it displays at a much higher level than that suggested by its technically accurate grade. (If matted and framed it would present as Vg-Ex.) Accompanied by a complete March 10, 1906, issue of Sporting Life featuring the 1906 New Orleans Pelicans W601 team composite on the cover. Fair condition. Total: 2 items. The size/weight of this item requires that there will be an additional shipping charge for this lot. Reserve $10.
